Language Schools In Germany

German is best studied being totally immersed among local people and culture. With three grammatical genders, four nouns and words that never seem to end, German is definitely not the easiest language to learn. Most German language courses in Germany start the tuition week on Mondays, with a variation of course lengths. Costs and Affordability

Considering Germany having a high standard of living, the cost of living is quite reasonable. Prices for clothing, accommodation, food and leisure are compared to the EU average. General monthly expense will be at around 650 to 850 Euros and cover the basics such as rent and food. The cost of living is generally a bit higher in the bigger cities we mentioned earlier on in this article.

Language courses in Germany are offered as low as 100 Euros per week, but vary in cost depending on the level of tuition offered. If you opt to learn German at a University you might have to pay addition semester fees which cover social services and other administrative services. On the other side, usually semester fees include the "Semester Ticket", which also covers public transport for a period of 6 months.

Accommodation and VISA Requirements

Accommodation Options

You can find different housing options when studying German. Apartments being the most common for the older generation, there are also plenty of other options such as home-stays, student residences and dormitories. Keep in mind that accommodation is usually not included in your tuition fees and should be organised by yourself.

VISA Requirements

EU citizens and citizens from United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand do not require a VISA when studying at a language school in Germany. Others would need to obtain a residence permit which can be processed and obtained from the Aliens Registration Office at a German embassy or consulate. Language students have the opportunity to apply for one of three VISA options:

  1. A Language Course VISA
  2. A Student Application VISA
  3. A Student VISA

The type of Student VISA required is depending on the language course you will be taking and which type of institution is offering  the course. It is adviced to get advice regarding your particular situation with the Aliens Office or directly with the institution you will be attending the course at.
