Marienplatz
This is also known as Munich’s heart. In the past it used to host spectator events such as executions and battles, however, nowadays this city is made alive by beer halls, fancy restaurants, street performers, shops and musicians. As an expat in Marienplatz, you will have the opportunity to meet a lot of locals, tourists and other expats.
Munich Residenz
In the past, the Munich Residence served as the seat of the government and a residence for the Bavarian dukes, electors and kings. Inside there is the famous Crown Jewels, the State Collection of Egyptian Art, Residenz/Cuvilles Theatre and the Herkulessaal concert hall. It is recommended as a must go by many people.
Frauenkirche
Also known as the Church of our Lady. Locals say that the Frauenkirche resembles a pair of beer steins bubbling over the Munich skyline. It has a unique skyline view of Munich which you can see from its observation platform at the top. Despite the allied bombing in WW2, the Church was restored in the mid 1900s making it look beautiful more than ever.
Viktualienmarkt
If you are looking to interact with locals and really feel the Munich vide, the Viktualienmarkt is the place to be! Dating back to 1807, this is the city’s oldest farmer’s market. Here, you can find and abundance of fresh produce and agricultural products daily. It is open six days a week and located in the heart of Munich.
Nymphenburgh Palace
What began as a summer residence of the Royal Wittelsbach in 1664, turned into a palace with galleries, pavilions, circle of ornate, baroque mansions and a Grand Hall with ornate Rococco elements covering around 500 acres. The palace is renowned for King Ludwig’s “Gallery of Beauties,” which is a portrait gallery of 36 beautiful women.
Deutsches Museum
The German Museum of Masterpieces of Technology and Science. It is one the largest scientific technological museums in the world and also one of Germany’s top attractions, having around 1.3million visitor every year. It houses 18,000 incredible artifacts and exhibits. This is truly a museum like no other and a must visit while in Munich!
Alte Pinakothek
The Old Picture Gallery, is known as one of the best galleries around the world. The Alte Pinakotek houses facinating works from Titian and Rembrandt and one of Rubens largest collections. Open six days a week, this gallery is definitely worth a look!
